Pyari FAQ Page
What is Pyari?

Pyari is a creative education company working to reshape sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education and management in Nepal. We empower individuals by providing comprehensive SRH education using creative tools and resources that help to break the stigma and create safe spaces for open discussions. Pyari envisions a world where SRH is fun, engaging, and accessible.

How Did Pyari Start?

Pyari began as a menstrual health initiative in a Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) class at Yale university, driven by the mission to normalize conversations around menstruation and break societal taboos. What started as a classroom project soon evolved into a movement, highlighting the urgent need for inclusive, holistic education in Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR). Recognizing the diverse needs of individuals, Pyari now works to promote education, understanding, and advocacy for SRHR across communities. Pyari is supported by Yale University and Wesleyan University.

How has Pyari evolved?

Since its inception, Pyari has grown from a menstrual health education initiative into a comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) education platform. What began as small grassroots educational workshops has expanded into structured programs that include expansive curriculum development and institutional partnerships. We now work with educators, health professionals, and community leaders to ensure that SRH education is accessible, culturally relevant, and empowering for all.

What are Pyari’s services?

Pyari is committed to transforming SRH education through:

  • School-based programs that integrate SRH topics into educational curricula.
  • Workshops for diverse groups, including adolescents, parents, teachers, workplaces, and marginalized communities.
  • Training educators to provide comprehensive, stigma-free SRH education.
  • Collaborations with global and local organizations to promote evidence-based SRH education.

Developing accessible learning materials that cater to different learning needs, languages, and abilities.

Why is SRH education important?

The WHO outlines sexual health as a lifelong, multidimensional aspect of well-being—one that is shaped by gender, social norms, and personal rights. But in Nepal, schools have either overlooked or actively removed SRH from curricula, leaving students to seek information from unreliable sources or, worse, to remain in the dark. Schools play a critical role in shaping the way young people understand consent, boundaries, bodily autonomy, and respect. Without SRH education, we allow myths, stigma, and silence to persist—fueling issues like gender-based violence, period shame, and misinformation about sexual health.

SRH education is more than reproductive organs and contraceptives; it’s about shaping a society where young people grow up with respect for their bodies and those of others. If we want to create classrooms that foster critical thinking, equality, and safety, we cannot continue to treat SRH education as an optional topic: it must be at the core of how we teach and raise future generations.
